about
At just 20 years old, Levi Boutin is an emerging palette-knife oil painter whose work is
already finding its way into galleries and private collections. Working primarily with a
palette knife rather than brushes, Levi builds his paintings through layers of oil paint,
creating rich texture, dimension, movement, and an unmistakable sense of depth.
Although Levi officially began pursuing painting professionally in December 2025, his
connection to art began much earlier. At only 12 years old, his first piece of artwork sold
through a gallery - a unique three-generation collaboration created alongside his uncle,
internationally recognized artist Jeff Boutin, and his grandfather, Jim Boutin, an
accomplished metal artist.
Years later, Levi returned to painting with an extraordinary sense of purpose. Under the
mentorship of his uncle Jeff, whose career as a professional artist spans more than two
decades, Levi has immersed himself in the study of composition, color, light, texture,
materials, and the craftsmanship required to create enduring works of art.
His progress has been remarkably swift. Within six months of beginning his professional
painting career, Levi delivered a collection of 20 original paintings to his first gallery in
Aspen, Colorado. His work has since begun attracting collectors who recognize both the
strength of his paintings today and the exciting potential of a young artist at the beginning of
a long and promising career.
Levi approaches painting with both an artist's eye and a craftsman's curiosity. He describes
himself as part craftsman, scientist, and engineer - continually experimenting with how oil
paint behaves beneath the palette knife, how light transforms a subject, and how color and
texture can give a painting its energy and character.
Despite his age, Levi is drawn to the craftsmanship and dedication of artists who came
generations before him.
"I paint as if I'm a hundred years older than I am."
That philosophy can be seen throughout his work. Each painting is created deliberately, layer
by layer, allowing the marks of the palette knife and the physical texture of the oil paint to
become part of the finished piece.
For collectors, Levi's work offers something particularly exciting: the opportunity to
discover and collect the work of a young artist at the beginning of his career, as his artistic
voice, body of work, and gallery presence continue to grow.
